Ohio Governor Launches Initiatives to Close the 'Glasses Gap' in Children

CLEVELAND, OH / ACCESSWIRE / May 16, 2024 - Governor Mike DeWine has introduced a new state-wide initiative, the "Children's Vision Strike Force," aimed at ensuring schoolchildren in need receive glasses. His announcement took place during his visit to Oxford Elementary in East Cleveland, facilitated by Vision To Learn.

Discussing the program, Governor DeWine emphasized the critical role of vision in educational development, noting that about 80 percent of learning is visual. Vision To Learn, which has been active in over 180 Ohio schools since 2021, supports students by providing free vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses, particularly in underserved areas.

Approximately one in four children requires glasses for optimal school performance. Vision To Learn’s mission is to address this need, enhancing educational outcomes. Since its expansion to Ohio in 2021, the organization reached significant milestones in collaboration with local partners, providing pivotal vision care services to over 36,000 children across the state.
