Battery-Buffered Microgrid Enhances Fast Charging Capabilities

ADS-TEC Energy GmbH has developed a battery-buffered microgrid system, enabling greater charging power than grid connections typically allow. This innovation was demonstrated at a Bayernwerk AG site in Regensburg, where integrated battery storage facilitated ultra-fast charging. The ChargePost unit provides 300 kW of charging power, operating on a 125 kW grid connection. This system uses a 201 kWh battery to supplement grid power, allowing multiple vehicles to charge simultaneously despite grid limitations.

The system's dual function includes supporting additional charging points during high demand and mitigating peak loads. Integration into existing energy management systems offers operators cost efficiency and grid-friendly performance. The need for grid expansion is reduced, providing economic advantages by lowering operating costs by several thousand euros per year through peak shaving and optimized energy purchasing.
