AFYREN and ESSE Skincare Formulate 100% Natural Cosmetic Solutions

AFYREN, a French greentech company, and ESSE Skincare, based in South Africa, are partnering to introduce the world’s first bio-based propionic acid for skincare. This collaboration marks a new potential for skin health and sustainable cosmetic solutions. Propionic acid, a naturally occurring short chain fatty acid, is key for maintaining a balanced skin microbiome. The bio-based version, produced at AFYREN's NEOXY plant in France, intends to enhance skin barrier resilience and microbial balance.

Traditionally derived from petrochemical sources, propionic acid will now be available in a sustainably produced form, thanks to AFYREN's innovative fermentation technology. ESSE Skincare will incorporate this ingredient into their products, embracing formulations that align with the skin's ecosystem.

AFYREN CEO Nicolas Sordet emphasized how biotechnology could drive performance and sustainability, anticipating that the first products reach consumers soon.
