Air Liquide and TotalEnergies Announce Major Hydrogen Investments in Europe
Air Liquide has announced significant investments to further decarbonize European industry and mobility in collaboration with TotalEnergies. The company plans two large-scale electrolyzer projects in Europe aimed at producing renewable and low-carbon hydrogen. The ELYgator project, a 200MW electrolyzer in Rotterdam, will produce up to 23,000 tons of hydrogen annually, utilizing renewable energy from offshore wind farms.
Additionally, Air Liquile and TotalEnergies are forming a joint venture to develop a 250MW electrolyzer in Zeeland, Netherlands, targeting annual production of 30,000 tons of hydrogen. Together, these projects represent over 1 billion euros in investments, projected to prevent 500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Both initiatives reflect Air Liquide's commitment to providing concrete solutions for carbon reduction, supported by European and Dutch funding programs. TotalEnergies aims to use renewable electricity from offshore projects, underscoring its integrated energy approach.
