ALPS Appoints Brian Turnbow for AI Data Center Expansion

ALPS, an Italian scale-up, has announced the appointment of Brian Turnbow as Technical Director to spearhead the development of next-generation AI data centers. This initiative emphasizes a sustainable energy-to-compute approach that utilizes renewable energy sources and existing assets to reduce the environmental impact of computing infrastructure.

Founded in 2018 in Trentino, ALPS plans to leverage Turnbow’s extensive experience in digital infrastructure to integrate energy systems with AI and high-performance computing (HPC). A critical factor is access to power, with data center grid connection requests in Italy reaching over 100 GW as of August 2026.

The company aims to create sustainable data centers by repurposing disused industrial sites and avoiding congested grid areas. Italy will be a focal market as ALPS seeks to harness local resources to strengthen Europe’s AI capabilities.
