Altech Advances with Silumina Anode Pilot Plant Success

Altech Advanced Materials AG has announced the successful launch of its Silumina Anode Pilot Plant at Schwarze Pumpe, Saxony. The plant has commenced production through all manufacturing stages, with an initial 30 kg batch of the innovative anode material aimed at enhancing lithium-ion battery performance by up to 55%. This milestone follows quality checks by the Fraunhofer Institute, with plans to send samples to potential customers by mid-2025.

The company has developed a novel method of coating silicon with aluminium oxide to improve battery performance. This innovation overcomes previous limitations where silicon swelling and ion attachment degraded battery efficiency. Test operations will refine the process, paving the way for industrial-scale production and collaboration with battery and vehicle manufacturers for further testing.
