Amoéba, a company specializing in microbiological solutions, has obtained emergency authorization in Italy for 120 days for its biofungicide against basil downy mildew. This decision addresses a health emergency affecting basil, which is impacted by the pathogen Peronospora belbahrii.

This mildew can affect up to 80% of crops, especially Genovese basil, essential to the pesto industry. Italy, the leading European basil producer, sees this authorization as crucial support. Although temporary, it offers farmers a valuable alternative in a context of reduced authorization for insecticides.

The goal is to strengthen the basil sector in the face of agronomic and economic challenges. Amoéba's biocontrol solution, which will be used until October 2, 2026, is strategic while awaiting full Italian approval.
