Archangel Lightworks Successfully Trials TERRA-M Optical Ground Station
Archangel Lightworks has completed successful trials of the TERRA-M, the world's smallest deployable operational optical ground station. The trials demonstrated its effective capability in transferring data between space and ground swiftly and securely. The technology aligns with the U.S. Space Development Agency standards and received praise from UK Space Minister Liz Lloyd.
Unlike traditional stations, the TERRA-M stands at just 1.1m tall and 0.7m in diameter. It is highly transportable and does not require an external dome, allowing deployment in diverse locations. The unit is already available for purchase, and service contracts are being offered.
Supported by the UK's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, the trials underscore the UK's position at the forefront of laser communications technology. Investors such as Santander Alternative Investments and Oxford Capital have backed Archangel Lightworks, capturing significant interest in the growing demand for resilient space communication solutions.
