ATHENE-1 Satellite Heads for Launch at Vandenberg
OHB’s ATHENE-1 satellite is en route to Vandenberg Space Force Base for an impending launch via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in early October. This development marks the final phase of the launch campaign for the small satellite, which is a joint development by OHB’s subsidiary, LuxSpace, and the University of the Bundeswehr Munich as part of the SeRANIS program.
The satellite will be deployed into low Earth orbit (LEO), showcasing innovations in satellite communications, networking, reconnaissance, navigation, artificial intelligence, and onboard data processing. ATHENE-1 aims to validate technologies under real conditions, advancing resilient communication and data processing for future space applications.
The mission utilizes LuxSpace's Triton-X Heavy platform and embodies a collaboration between academia and industry, promising significant advancements in satellite-based systems for both civilian and defense uses.
