Austrian Post Agrees to Pay 47.8 Million Euros in Compensation

Austrian Post AG has reached a significant agreement with the Republic of Austria. The company will pay 47.8 million euros as compensation for social contributions linked to civil servants from 1996 to 2008. This agreement eliminates the need for legal proceedings over disputed payments to the Family Burden Equalisation Fund (FLAF).

The context for this settlement stems from a 2015 Austrian Administrative Court ruling. The court determined that Austrian Post was not legally required to contribute payroll funds to FLAF for assigned civil servants. This led to a reimbursement between 2015 and 2019. However, potential compensation obligations persisted, leading to differing interpretations over payment amounts.

Efforts to resolve this began in 2018, with Austrian Post provisioning funds for potential payouts. The recent agreement aligns with these expectations, providing closure and legal clarity.
