Demand for electric cars is rising in Switzerland
In August 2026, the new car market in Switzerland and Liechtenstein recorded 16,047 registrations, marking a 0.6% decrease compared to August 2025. Since the beginning of the year, the sector has shown a slight recovery of 1.8%, with 151,589 vehicles registered. However, the overall market remains tight, particularly in light of the dynamic European market, which is experiencing 5% growth.
Demand for all-electric cars continues to grow, representing 30.2% of registrations in August, a 48.7% increase compared to the previous year. In contrast, plug-in hybrids saw a 4.3% decline, accounting for 12.4% of new registrations. Vehicles powered by fossil fuels continue their decline, now representing only 26.1% of sales.
