Growth of Plug-in Hybrids in Switzerland: Uneven Improvement
In October 2025, the Swiss new car market experienced mixed results. Despite a significant increase in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales, which rose by 33.6% compared to the previous year, the overall market declined by 1.6%. Pure electric vehicle (BEV) sales accounted for 22.6% of registrations, showing a 17.1% increase.
Since the beginning of the year, 187,378 new cars have been registered, a decrease of nearly 4% compared to 2024. The share of plug-in vehicles has reached 32.5%, far from the 50% target set by the roadmap for electric mobility. In comparison, the European Union, thanks to incentives such as tax breaks, is seeing its market grow.
