Commerzbank's SREP Capital Requirements Reduced for 2027
The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced a reduction in Commerzbank's Pillar 2 capital requirement (P2R) by 5 basis points to 2.10% for 2027. This marks the second consecutive year of reduced capital requirements, underscoring the robustness of Commerzbank's business model. The leverage ratio requirement remains steady at 0.1% for the SREP P2R-LR.
Commerzbank's CEO, Bettina Orlopp, highlighted the continued profitability and risk management as key factors. As of June 2026, the pro forma CET1 requirement stands at 10.26% of risk-weighted assets. The bank maintains a comfortable buffer against the Maximum Distributable Amount (MDA) threshold, allowing ongoing growth and capital return policies.
The continued aim is a CET1 ratio of 13.5%, with the ratio at 14.4% as of mid-2026, supporting the bank's “Momentum” strategy through 2030.
