WHO Approves BIOFIRE® Panel for Ebola Response
The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted Emergency Use Listing (EUL) for the BIOFIRE® Global Fever Special Pathogens Panel developed by bioMérieux. This approval aims to enhance diagnostic testing access during the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and surrounding regions.
Manufactured by BioFire Defense, the panel swiftly identifies 16 pathogens, including Ebola, Marburg, and West Nile viruses, using a single blood sample in about an hour. This rapid diagnosis supports faster clinical decisions and better resource management.
bioMérieux has boosted manufacturing and provided essential support to affected areas, strengthening laboratory capacities through instrument deliveries and professional training.
The panel's ability to detect the Bundibugyo ebolavirus is crucial for outbreak containment and public health planning.
