Bison Bank Leads Portugal into MiCA-Regulated Crypto Services

Bison Bank, based in Lisbon, has secured its position as a pioneer in financial innovation by becoming the first Portuguese bank authorized to operate as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under the European MiCA regulation. This move enhances its integration of traditional finance with digital assets.

The bank's journey in digital finance began in 2022 when its subsidiary, Bison Digital Assets (BDA), became the first bank-owned Virtual Asset Service Provider in Portugal. Now, with a CASP license, Bison Bank plans to expand its on-chain strategy, facilitating institutional access to crypto-assets through a comprehensive compliance framework.

In 2025, BDA served 275 clients, handling a €165 million traded volume. Bison Bank's financial strength, demonstrated by a notable €5 million recurring net profit and a 38.5% CET1 capital ratio, supports its strategic initiatives like stablecoins and future tokenization solutions.
