Cambrex Commences $120 Million Expansion in Charles City

Cambrex has begun a significant expansion at its Charles City, Iowa facility, investing $120 million to increase its manufacturing capacity. This project will add 160,000 liters, enhancing the site’s total capacity by 25% to roughly one million liters. The expansion will support the development and production of small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and synthetic peptides. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on October 29, coincides with the site's centenary celebration. Cambrex leaders, employees, and local officials attended. This expansion is part of Cambrex’s commitment to investing in U.S. manufacturing, as stated by Claudio Russolo, Cambrex's COO and incoming CEO. This project emphasizes the site's historical importance and future potential in customer support from development to commercialization.
