Corporate Clients Shift Towards Non-Bank Financial Institutions

Stock price chart of CAPGEMINI (EPA:CAP) showing fluctuations.

As competition with private capital intensifies, 85% of banks' corporate clients are considering engaging with non-bank financial institutions within the next year, according to Capgemini's World Corporate and Investment Banking Report 2026. Clients seek faster and more transparent services, which traditional corporate and investment banks (CIBs) struggle to provide.

Current innovation efforts in CIBs are not meeting expectations, with over 80% of executives reporting no revenue improvements through new products and 51% seeing no cost savings. Limited IT budgets, with only 29% allocated to transformative technologies, and high compliance costs are key challenges. Competition is driving banks to explore tokenized products and AI-driven market solutions.

Bank executives acknowledge the growing gap as non-banks enhance their offerings. Capgemini's Catherine Chedru-Refeuil emphasizes the need for CIBs to adopt enterprise-grade platforms and develop partnerships to better serve clients and reduce costs.
