CATL Begins Trial Production in Hungary
On September 22, 2026, CATL commenced trial production at its new cell factory in Debrecen, Hungary. This marks a significant step following the fulfillment of all necessary preconditions, particularly environmental and safety standards. The trial phase aims at optimizing production equipment and manufacturing processes before launching full-scale production.
The Debrecen facility, CATL's second European plant, was announced in 2022 to strengthen the European automotive supply chain. It features state-of-the-art technology and is poised to become CATL's largest manufacturing base outside China with a 100 GWH capacity. The factory is pivotal for supplying Europe's leading automakers, leveraging Hungary's electric vehicle production capacity.
Regular inspections by the Hajdú-Bihar County Government confirmed the resolution of prior issues. CATL remains committed to health, safety, and environmental standards, working closely with government authorities. The company's investment is seen as a boost to both the local and Hungarian economies.
