HUAWEI Unveils New Tau Scaling Law for Semiconductor Advancement

On May 27, 2026, at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems in Shanghai, HUAWEI presented the Tau Scaling Law, an innovative approach to semiconductor development. He Tingbo, President of HUAWEI's Semiconductor Business Department, introduced this as a successor to Moore's Law, focusing on reducing signal delay and improving efficiency.

This new law emphasizes time scaling over geometric scaling, aiming to enhance performance, energy efficiency, and density. HUAWEI is developing technologies like LogicFolding and multi-level optimization to minimize delays and boost performance at various levels, from devices to systems.

The upcoming Kirin processors, to be released in fall 2026, will be the first to incorporate LogicFolding architecture. HUAWEI foresees achieving transistor density comparable to 14-angstrom processes by 2031 under this framework designed to overcome current industry challenges.
