Commerzbank Sticks to Existing Strategy Amid UniCredit Talks
Commerzbank has announced its decision to continue with its current business strategy after interactions with UniCredit. Despite recent discussions, Commerzbank sees no sufficient upside potential in a mutually agreed transaction, indicating UniCredit's offer lacks an adequate premium for shareholders.
The bank has been in regular dialogue with UniCredit but found no concrete proposals enhancing beyond its standalone strategy. Commerzbank argues the benefits outlined by UniCredit can be realized independently, without the risks of a merger.
Commerzbank plans to reveal upgraded financial targets alongside its quarterly results on 8 May 2026, maintaining its Momentum strategy, which it claims is sustainable and low risk. The bank remains open to future discussions if real value can be demonstrated for stakeholders.
