Comprehensive Review Launched After Major Fire in Hong Kong

A devastating fire recently struck Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, impacting seven out of eight high-rise residential buildings on November 26. In response, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government swiftly initiated support measures and launched an investigation into the incident.

John Lee, Chief Executive of HKSAR, emphasized the government's commitment to both immediate and long-term assistance for the affected residents. Emergency financial aid and other support mechanisms, including medical assistance and housing, have been put in place. Moreover, a dedicated support fund has been created, accumulating HK$2.3 billion, largely from donations.

Concurrently, a criminal investigation is underway with several arrests made. To ensure a comprehensive review, an independent committee led by a judge will examine the building works system to prevent future occurrences.
