CorTec Brain Interface Electrodes Demonstrate Long-Term Stability

CorTec GmbH has presented data at the 10th Graz BCI Conference, highlighting the durability and stability of its brain-computer interface electrodes. Over a span exceeding four years, electrodes implanted in non-human primates displayed robust signal stability. This marks the longest observation for CorTec’s electrode platform, which is under clinical scrutiny at the University of Washington.

The electrodes showcased no significant loss in signal quality, with 63 out of 64 electrode contacts remaining functional more than four years post-implantation. CorTec's technology aims to enhance patient care by minimizing the need for replacement surgeries, a critical concern for the longevity of medical implants.

The research offers insights into potential applications in therapies like central thalamic deep brain stimulation. This evidence bolsters the prospect of long-term patient safety and efficacy for CorTec’s Brain Interchange system, which supports motor recovery post-stroke and assists in computer control for patients with quadriplegia.
