Cumulus Neuroscience Showcases Symbol Swap Task at AAIC 2026

Cumulus Neuroscience has unveiled data at the AAIC 2026 revealing that its Symbol Swap task can match or surpass traditional clinical benchmarks in Alzheimer's trial pre-enrichment. This two-minute digital task effectively distinguishes between control, MCI, and Alzheimer's dementia groups. It achieves accuracy similar to ADAS-Cog, MoCA, and MMSE, even identifying pathology in clinically normal individuals.

The Symbol Swap task simplifies participant engagement and reduces the time burden on clinical sites. Automated scoring and ease of administration allow integration into large-scale trials, both in-clinic and at-home. The interim data from three studies, including CNS-101, Fastball i4i, and BioHermes-002, support its efficacy as a preliminary screening tool, potentially lowering screen-failure rates in trials.

Experts from Cumulus, including CSO Brian Murphy and CEO Tina Sampath, highlight the task's potential to streamline Alzheimer's trials, promising a reduction in cost and timeline through improved participant selection.
