1&1 AG Achieves Milestone in German Mobile Network Expansion
1&1 AG has reached a significant milestone by expanding its mobile network to cover 25% of German households. Two years after launching services on Germany's fourth mobile network, the company has met its first coverage target set by the Federal Network Agency ahead of the December 2025 deadline. This achievement follows 1&1's recent success in migrating customers to its network, fulfilling the agency's "competitive independence" requirement.
Despite legal challenges to the 5G frequency auction rules, 1&1 remains committed to its network rollout plans. CEO Ralph Dommermuth highlighted the network's innovative features, including it being Europe's first fully virtualized 5G network using Open RAN technology. The network has received "very good" ratings in assessments, underscoring its quality.
As 1&1 continues to expand, it aims to enhance competition, innovation, and digital independence within Germany's mobile communications sector. The ongoing rollout ensures all connections are processed via its robust core network, utilizing Vodafone's infrastructure wherever 1&1's isn't yet operational.
