Avolta Initiates Stablecoin Payment Pilot at Zurich Airport

Avolta AG has launched a pilot for stablecoin payments at its Duty Free store in Zurich Airport. From September 9 to 25, 2026, travelers can purchase directly from their digital wallets using a QR-code process. This model bypasses traditional card networks, with funds transferred in seconds via blockchain technology.

Yves Gerster, Avolta's CFO, highlights the initiative as a shift from conventional payment methods, enabling direct transactions between customers and merchants. Wallet-to-wallet payments could transform payment infrastructure, and the pilot offers real-world insights.

This project is part of Avolta's drive to use emerging technologies to enhance traveler experiences and modernize retail payments, developed alongside DevelopX.
