Ecuador's Banana Industry Calls for Shared Responsibility in Sustainability

Ecuador remains the world's top banana exporter thanks largely to investments in environmental certifications, labor conditions, and biosecurity, primarily funded by producers. As the European Union demands greater traceability, the Banana and Plantain Cluster will spotlight these issues at Madrid's Fruit Attraction trade fair.

Industry representatives argue supermarkets often sell bananas at steep discounts, overlooking actual production expenses. They advocate for shared sustainability responsibility across the supply chain, supported by initiatives measuring the water and carbon footprints under international standards.
