"Boot of Cortez" Gold Nugget Up for Auction at EJ's
The "Boot of Cortez," a 26.2-pound gold nugget, will be auctioned on June 12 by EJ's Auction & Appraisal in Glendale, Arizona. This remarkable piece is the largest natural gold nugget in the Western Hemisphere. Discovered in 1989 near Caborca, Mexico, the nugget has been displayed at major museums like the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Independently weighed and analyzed, the nugget measures 383.10 troy ounces and is 98% pure gold. Key features include its boot shape, standing at 10 ¾ inches in height. Previously sold for over $1.3 million in 2008, it has remained in a private collection since.
