EKPO and Akkodis Begin On-Road Testing of NM20 Fuel Cell Stack
ElringKlinger AG announces that EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies and Akkodis have initiated on-road testing for the NM20 fuel cell stack. This hydrogen-based technology is integrated into a 40-ton truck for logistics operations, marking a significant step in decarbonizing heavy-duty transport. The project, combining expertise from both entities, aims to assess the fuel cell’s performance in real-world conditions, gathering data for further development.
The NM20 fuel cell stack, based on PEM technology, offers up to 400 kW power and a 25,000-hour service life, designed for commercial viability in long-haul transport. The test vehicle, implementing a one-stack system, achieves efficiency up to 61%, showcasing high-performance capabilities without complex architecture. Insights from this initiative are applicable beyond road freight, extending to marine and stationary power sectors.
The real-world testing approach aids EKPO in refining system interactions and optimizing for larger-scale deployment. Supported by the IPCEI funding, the NM20 stack represents a crucial development towards sustainable and efficient heavy-duty transportation.
