ENGIE Expands Battery Storage Projects in Europe with 400 MW Developments
ENGIE is set to strengthen its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Europe by acquiring and initiating projects totaling nearly 400 MW. In Spain, ENGIE will acquire two BESS projects with a combined capacity of 278 MW, marking the country's largest such projects. In France, ENGIE is commencing construction on its first BESS facility, which will have a capacity of 110 MW. These initiatives contribute to ENGIE's strategy to enhance grid stability and promote the integration of renewable energy.
The Spanish projects, located in Andalusia, have a total storage potential of 1.1 GWh, with construction starting in 2027. ENGIE anticipates the progressive commissioning of these projects by 2028. Meanwhile, the French project is scheduled to start operations in summer 2027. With these new additions, ENGIE's BESS capacity in Europe will exceed 1 GW, facilitating the Group's goal to achieve 95 GW of renewable and storage capacity by 2030.
