ENGIE to Develop Largest Onshore Wind Farm in Egypt
ENGIE has announced plans to construct a 900 MW onshore wind farm in Ras Shokeir, Egypt. This project, a collaboration with Orascom Construction and Aeolus, will be managed under a 25-year Build-Own-Operate scheme. Set to surpass ENGIE's Assuruá complex in Brazil, it marks the company's largest onshore wind endeavor globally.
The initiative is backed by a Power Purchase Agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. Financial closing is expected by Q3 2026, with the wind farm's phased commissioning starting in December 2027 and full operation by mid-2028.
This will be ENGIE’s third wind venture in Egypt, expanding its installed wind capacity in the region to nearly 2GW. Previously, the consortium successfully delivered two projects in the country, outperforming timelines and budgets.
ENGIE affirms its strategic role in Egypt's energy transition, emphasizing renewable energy deployment in close cooperation with public and industrial partners.
