Fire brought under control at the Eramet Grande Côte extraction site in Senegal

On February 22, 2026, a fire broke out around 3 p.m. at the Eramet Grande Côte mining site in Senegal, a subsidiary of the Eramet group specializing in mineral sands extraction. The plant was undergoing maintenance, and the site was quickly evacuated. No injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished around 8 p.m.

Local authorities were informed immediately and a communication plan was activated. Eramet's response teams, in coordination with local firefighters, brought the situation under control. An investigation is underway to determine the causes and impact on the site.

Eramet emphasizes that safety remains a top priority. Initial findings indicate that the fire did not affect the spirals used to separate the mineralized sands.
