Strategic Nickel Industry Partnership in Indonesia
On May 28, 2025, Danantara Indonesia, the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and French mining company Eramet signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster a strategic investment platform in Indonesia's nickel sector. This deal aims to boost a sustainable electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem nationwide. Presidents Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia and Emmanuel Macron of France were present at the signing in Jakarta.
Pandu Sjahrir, Chief Investment Officer of Danantara Indonesia, emphasized that the partnership would solidify Indonesia's position in the global EV battery supply chain. Combining financial management expertise from Danantara and INA with Eramet's technical mining experience, this venture supports world-class sustainable nickel investment.
The initiative aligns with INA's focus on critical minerals and downstream industries to attract high-quality investments. Eramet CEO Paulo Castellari highlighted their ongoing commitment to Indonesia's nickel sector since 2006, demonstrating the company's dedication to sustainable development in the region.
