EU and China Urged to Embrace Constructive Engagement in AI

During the 12th CEIBS Europe Forum in Paris and Brussels, leaders from Europe and China emphasized the need to transition from tech rivalry to constructive engagement. They argued that AI is reshaping global power, transforming it into an issue of sovereignty and leadership. Former European Council President Charles Michel highlighted semiconductors and data infrastructure as significant factors influencing international relations.

The forum underscored distinct AI strategies: the US focuses on frontier investments, China on large-scale applications, and Europe on regulatory frameworks. CEIBS President Wang Hong stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation amid growing competition.

Industry experts from Siemens and EDF noted AI as an enabler of human expertise across sectors but flagged the challenge of its energy demands. A joint Sino-European effort in grid technology and renewables was identified as a key opportunity.

CEIBS Co-President Frank Bournois concluded by advocating for unity and trust, noting that competition alone is inadequate for advancing global AI governance.
