European Parliament Hosts Conference on Global Nanoplastics Risks

On February 24, 2026, the European Parliament hosted an international conference on the global risks of micro- and nanoplastics. Organized with the ALLATRA Global Research Center and MEP Ondřej Knotek, the event gathered experts to discuss the environmental and health issues posed by these particles.

Experts noted the presence of microscopic plastic particles in air, water, and food, posing significant concerns. Dr. John Ahn highlighted their ability to enter the bloodstream and accumulate in organs, while Anna Kotlyar emphasized their global impact.

Health risks such as cellular damage were explored, with Alexander Masny discussing nanoplastics' ability to penetrate cells. Prof Antonio Ragusa warned of prenatal development risks through microplastics in placental tissue.

The conference called for global standardised monitoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased public awareness to drive effective policymaking, stressing the moral responsibility of facing these challenges.
