On June 23, 2026, Française de l’Énergie (FDE) revealed significant findings from its PTH-2 well in Lorraine, France, marking a pivotal point in natural hydrogen exploration. This deep well, reaching 3,655 meters, showcases exceptionally high hydrogen concentrations, reaffirming the findings from the earlier Folschviller discovery.

The PTH-2 results, part of the REGALOR II research, aim to transition from discovery to industrial production, with resource certification anticipated by 2027 and production by the end of 2028. Measurements showed hydrogen levels of 36.1% and 49.6% at depths of over 2,000 meters, bolstering the region’s potential as a hydrogen hub.

Technological advancements, such as the SYSMOG™ probe, confirmed these findings, highlighting FDE’s progress in developing a European hydrogen value chain. The company is set on transforming scientific discoveries into viable industrial projects, eyeing initial production in Eastern France by late 2028.
