First Ever ICE Dragon Boat Race Unites Young Global Athletes

On January 10, the inaugural "HIT-Cambridge-Oxford Cup" Ice Dragon Boat International Friendship Race took place in Harbin, China's "Ice City". Universities including Oxford, Cambridge, and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) participated alongside others from the C9 League, Hong Kong, and Macao. The event highlighted international camaraderie through a unique sporting challenge.

Ice dragon boating presented a new experience for many, divergent from traditional water rowing. Edward Townsend of Cambridge noted the intense cold and teamwork involved. Oxford's Daniel Foran emphasized the physical challenge, praising support from HIT coaches. Na Boshi, an HIT student, appreciated the cultural connections facilitated by the event.

Beyond competition, attendees engaged in cultural exchanges, exploring Harbin's local attractions. HIT's initiative reflects their commitment to fostering international collaboration and understanding through sports and education.
