Fortis Energy and EBRD Collaborate on Serbia's Largest Solar Project

Fortis Renewable Energy BV has partnered with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to explore financing for a 270 MWp solar power plant and 72 MWh battery storage system in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. This initiative is set to become the largest solar PV facility in Serbia and stands as a significant step toward regional energy security and decarbonization alignment with European policies.

Located near Belgrade, this significant infrastructure will generate over 365 GWh of clean electricity annually, serving over 105,000 households and preventing 182,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. Construction is expected to begin in Q3 2026, with commissioning planned for Q1 2028.

Fortis, headquartered in the Netherlands with roots in Türkiye, sees this project as a testament to the viability of large-scale solar developments in Southeast Europe, underscoring the EBRD's role in fostering sustainable infrastructure.
