Fortum Acquires 4.4 GW of Finnish Wind Projects from ABO Energy
On November 28, 2025, ABO Energy finalized the sale of a substantial 4.4 gigawatt wind energy portfolio in Finland to Fortum. The deal, valued at approximately EUR 40 million and devoid of cash or debt, includes 29 wind power projects. Five employees from ABO Energy will transition to Fortum. This transaction, following a July 2025 contract signing, also encompasses future earn-out payments tied to successful project investment decisions, potentially adding significant financial gains for ABO Energy.
Since 2013, ABO Energy has contributed significantly to the Finnish market, developing 15 wind farms. Despite recent moderation in investor interest due to low electricity prices, Finland's renewable energy landscape is attracting robust industrial investment across sectors like green steel and hydrogen. Notably, Finland’s wind energy operates without state aid, thriving purely on market forces. ABO Energy continues expanding its portfolio in Finland, delving into energy storage and hydrogen projects.
