GenSight Biologics and National Hospital Publish GS030 Trial Outcomes

GenSight Biologics and the 15-20 National Hospital have announced the publication of results from the GS030 PIONEER trial in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study assesses safety and exploratory visual function of GS030 in late-stage retinitis pigmentosa. GS030 utilizes an intravitreal injection, introducing light-sensitive proteins in retinal ganglion cells, combined with light-stimulating goggles. The publication highlights the promise of optogenetics, especially after recent Nobel Prize recognition of this approach.

Exploratory findings indicate potential visual improvements in patients. Six out of ten participants demonstrated improved light sensitivity, while four participants reported enhanced task performance using the goggles. The study underscores GenSight Biologics' role in advancing gene therapy and optogenetics to restore vision. Though results are preliminary, they open avenues for further research in treatments for retinal diseases.
