“Gifts - Large-Scale Transfers” Barometer: An Opportunity for the Non-Profit Sector
On June 24, 2026, Hopening, a fundraising agency, in collaboration with Goodangel Media, revealed the results of the first "Gifts - Large-Scale Inheritance" Barometer. This study, conducted with OpinionWay, indicates that 21% of French people are considering leaving their estate to a charity or foundation, highlighting considerable financial potential for the non-profit sector. Adapting to new generations is essential to capitalize on this long-term opportunity.
The results show that 53% of respondents begin thinking about their estate planning from the age of 47, primarily to plan for their future. However, 47% postpone these decisions, pushing back the average age of consideration to 68. While 21% include a charitable cause in their estate planning, 70% prioritize their loved ones. This interplay between philanthropy and family presents a significant challenge for charities.
Despite successful awareness campaigns, 42% of French people have never been exposed to the topic of gifts and bequests. Trust is primarily placed in notaries and family discussions to guide this complex process.
