Mars and Cargill Expand Renewable Energy Efforts in Poland

In a recent development, Mars and Cargill, two major food corporations, announced a significant expansion of their partnership in renewable energy. The initiative involves the purchase of 224 MWac of solar energy in Poland through five virtual power purchase agreements (PPAs) with GoldenPeaks Capital. This project is designed to reduce emissions within the food sector and contribute to cleaner energy on Europe’s most carbon-intensive grid.

The PPAs reflect an innovative collaboration approach, combining Mars and Cargill's demand and purchasing power. This results in the largest multi-buyer renewable energy agreement in Central and Eastern Europe. GoldenPeaks Capital will develop these solar projects, expected to be operational by 2027, providing enough energy to power 200,000 households per year.

The collaboration underscores the potential of supplier-customer partnerships to drive large-scale emissions reductions and push towards shared climate goals. This model suggests a pathway for similar ventures in the food and agricultural sectors to enhance climate action efforts.
