Chinese Traditional Culture Finds Global Fashion Footing
Guangzhou, China—Lingnan traditional culture is evolving from a local treasure to an international phenomenon through innovative fashion design. The 37th Guangdong Fashion Week showcased the One Heung Kong Haute Couture Show, bringing intangible cultural heritage (ICH) elements, such as Xiangyunsha, Chaozhou embroidery, Song brocade, and Yun brocade, to a global audience. This initiative aims to modernize and internationalize Chinese ICH.
Three designers—Li Xiaoyan, Yan Fangni, and Zhao Yakun—revitalized traditional craftsmanship by integrating it with contemporary fashion. Their work provides a creative framework that ties tradition to modernity and broadens global luxury markets. One Heung Kong has now been designated as a year-round exhibition space, breaking traditional fashion cycles.
This collaboration between cultural IPs and international platforms supports the inheritance of ICH and bolsters the creative economy. It establishes an Oriental cultural fashion ecosystem, facilitating Chinese culture's reach to a global audience.
