HMS Bergbau AG Commences Coal Production in Botswana
HMS Bergbau AG has initiated production at its coal mine in Botswana. The company has acquired a 51% stake in Maatla Resources, which holds a licence in a 45 km² area known for its coal resources. The mine includes a modern processing plant and is located in a region with strong infrastructure.
The initial production targets high-energy export coal, with an annual goal of 1.2 million tonnes of metallurgical coal. HMS Bergbau has secured exclusive marketing rights for all coal produced through Maatla. Medium-term plans aim to increase production to 3.6 million tonnes per year.
The venture is expected to boost HMS Bergbau's revenue and earnings by 2026, contributing a significant low double-digit million euro figure. The demand for coal is driven by regions such as Asia and Africa, and the stable political and economic environment in Botswana adds to the project's potential success.
