Hong Kong Forges New Ties with Central Asia
Hong Kong has embarked on a promising avenue with Central Asia following a high-level delegation visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan led by HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee. This mission, involving over 70 representatives, resulted in 96 bilateral memoranda and several governmental-level cooperation documents. The delegation's efforts have showcased Hong Kong's strategic position in the Belt and Road Initiative, acting as a conduit for enhanced cooperation.
John Lee emphasized the diverse agreements spanning sectors from services to mining and infrastructure, highlighting Kazakhstan's critical role within the Belt and Road framework. Uzbekistan's position as a logistic corridor further underscores the mutual benefits of these partnerships.
Additionally, Lee encouraged Central Asian enterprises to harness Hong Kong's unique "one country, two systems" advantages for broader economic collaboration. This initiative aims to bolster Kazakhstan's Alatau City development through capital, talent, and technology exchange, reinforcing Hong Kong's gateway role to global markets.
