Huawei's C&I GFM ESS Triumphs in Extreme Ignition Test
Huawei Digital Power's latest achievement, the Commercial and Industrial Hybrid Cooling Grid Forming Energy Storage System (C&I GFM ESS), has successfully passed an extreme ignition test. This rigorous assessment, witnessed by TÜV Rheinland, was carried out at a national fire safety lab in compliance with the UL 9540A:2025 standard.
The testing conditions were intentionally severe, using a full pack-level overcharge to induce thermal runaway in 60 battery cells simultaneously. Under these conditions, Huawei's ESS demonstrated remarkable resilience, thanks to a five-level protection system. This includes inter-cell thermal isolation, an all-metal pack enclosure, positive-pressure oxygen blocking, a fireproof labyrinth design, and enhanced container fire resistance.
These innovations ensured minimal fire propagation, with peak temperatures contained and the system self-extinguishing in under three hours. This achievement underscores the safety and reliability of Huawei's energy storage solutions.
