Hong Kong Unveils Strategies to Boost Tourism and Cultural Appeal

In a bid to enhance Hong Kong's status as a cultural and tourism hub, the city's Chief Executive, John Lee, detailed strategies within the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development (2026-2030) and the 2026 Policy Address. Key initiatives focus on integrating culture, sports, and tourism to position Hong Kong as an East-meets-West International Cultural Exchange Centre.

Plans include high-quality tourism offerings, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced ties with global markets. A "Film + Tourism" drive aims to attract international film productions. Additionally, the Kai Tak Sports Park's expansion supports mega events, hosting over 170 sports and cultural entertainments events.

Efforts to promote multi-destination tourism are underscored by a significant rise in visitor numbers, with 36.67 million arrivals in early 2026. Initiatives include promoting travel itineraries, facilitating Mainland travel, and developing the yacht economy. HKTB will also expand Muslim-friendly offerings through a Halal Certification Funding Scheme.
