Init Enters Autonomous Fleet Management Market with Norwegian Start-up Acquisition
Init Innovation in Traffic Systems SE has acquired a 67.74% stake in Norwegian start-up Applied Autonomy, established in 2017. This strategic investment is aimed at enhancing Init's capabilities in managing autonomous vehicle fleets, particularly in public transport, airports, and logistics. Applied Autonomy's xFlow® platform is a key asset, providing support for a mix of autonomous and conventional fleets.
The acquisition addresses a growing demand driven by a shortage of drivers, particularly in Germany, where over 20,000 bus drivers are needed. Applied Autonomy already operates the only autonomous bus in Europe on a regular route without a safety driver, in Stavanger, Norway.
In Germany, Init leads the 'BRAVE10k' project to integrate 10,000 autonomous vehicles into public transport by 2030. The project focuses on creating a framework for the deployment of autonomous fleets, aligning with sustainability goals and strengthening Europe's technological leadership.
