Ipsen to Acquire Kartos Therapeutics, Enhancing Hemato-Oncology Portfolio
Ipsen has announced its decision to acquire Kartos Therapeutics, a move that significantly bolsters its oncology portfolio with the addition of navtemadlin. This oral MDM2 inhibitor, currently in Phase III trials, targets patients with myelofibrosis who show a suboptimal response to standard ruxolitinib treatment. Navtemadlin aims to convert inadequate responses into substantial clinical improvements.
The POIESIS trial, enrolling over 600 patients globally, is set to deliver results by 2027. This acquisition represents a strategic enhancement of Ipsen's late-stage pipeline in hemato-oncology, potentially introducing a new treatment paradigm by 2028 for those not benefiting fully from existing therapies.
Transaction details include an upfront payment of $450 million, with possible additional milestone payments. Completion is expected by Q3 2026, pending standard regulatory approvals.
