Jaguar Health's Treatment Shows Promise for Pediatric IF Patients
Jaguar Health, Inc. announced promising developments in their treatment of intestinal failure (IF) using crofelemer in pediatric patients. Crofelemer, administered as a liquid oral therapy, has shown to reduce the need for parenteral support (PS) in an infant with a GUCY2C mutation causing congenital sodium diarrhea (CSD). This is the third rare condition being evaluated alongside microvillus inclusion disease (MVID) and short bowel syndrome (SBS-IF).
The treatment, aimed at patients with difficulties absorbing nutrients, shows a significant reduction in PS needs. For instance, one MVID patient experienced a 48% reduction in PS after over a year on high-dose crofelemer. Jaguar plans to file a New Drug Application for crofelemer in mid-2027.
Napo Pharmaceuticals, part of the Jaguar family, continues focusing on crofelemer's global development for pediatric IF diseases. Their ongoing research supports substantial improvements in pediatric care with no major side effects observed.
