Marinomed Biotech AG Faces Financial Uncertainty
Marinomed Biotech AG is navigating turbulent waters as it announces plans for court-supervised restructuring proceedings. This decision follows unsuccessful negotiations with its partner, Unither, which acquired the Carragelose franchise in February 2025. Due to the lack of earn-out payments from this sale, Marinomed is faced with the threat of insolvency.
The expected payments, potentially up to €15 million, were intended to repay the European Investment Bank, its main creditor. Marinomed's current financial obligations include €1.45 million due in November 2026 and €2.37 million due in May 2027, totaling €3.8 million.
If Marinomed overcomes its immediate financial hurdles, it may sustain its operations through its compounding business and potential Budesolv licensing agreements. However, legal and financial uncertainties persist, leading First Berlin Equity Research to place its rating and price target for the company under review.
